कोटेश्वर महादेव मंदिर के बारे में यह कहा जाता है कि भगवान शिव ने भस्मासुर से बचने के लिए इस मंदिर के पास मौजूद गुफा में रहकर कुछ समय बिताया था | भस्मासुर ने शिवजी की आराधना करके ये वरदान प्राप्त किया था कि जिसके सिर पर भी वो हाथ रख देगा , वो उसी क्षण भस्म हो जायेगा | भस्मासुर भी बड़ा तेज था , इस वरदान को आजमाने के लिए उसने भगवान शिव को ही चुना | फिर क्या था, शिवजी आगे-आगे और भस्मासुर उनके पीछे-पीछे पड़ने लगा | कोटेश्वर महादेव मंदिर के बारे में यह कहते है कि भस्मासुर से बचने के लिए शिवजी ने कोटेश्वर महादेव मंदिर के पास स्थित इस गुफा में रहकर कुछ समय बिताया था | बाद में भगवान विष्णु ने मोहिनी रूप धारण करके भस्मासुर का संहार करते हुए शिवजी की सहायता की थी | लोगों का यह भी मानना है कि कौरवों की मृत्यु के बाद जब पांडव मुक्ति का वरदान मांगने के लिए भगवान शिव को खोज रहे थे , तो भगवान शिव इसी गुफा में ध्यानावस्था में रहे थे। मंदिर की यह मान्यता है कि केदारनाथ धाम के दर्शन करने से पहले कोटेश्वर महादेव मंदिर के दर्शन कर लेने से सातो जन्म के पापो से मुक्ति मिल जाती है |
HOW TO REACH FROM DELHI
By Train :- The nearest railhead to this temple is at Rishikesh (142 km) and Dehradun (185 km).
By Air :- While Dehradun’s Jolly Grant airport at 160 km is the closest airport to this temple.
By Road:- The age-old Koteshwar Mahadev temple is located at a distance of 5 km from Rudraprayag. A brisk 1 km climb will make you reach this temple. To reach here one can hire a taxi, take a shared jeep or bus from Rudraprayag.
PLACE TO VISITE
1. Kedarnath Temple:- Chota Char Dham Yamunotri Gangotri Kedarnath Badrinath Kedarnath Temple is a Hindu temple, one of the twelve jyotirlinga of Shiva. The temple is located on the Garhwal Himalayan range near the Mandakini river, in the state of Uttarakhand, India.
2. Chopta :- Chopta is a small region of meadows and evergreen forest area, a part of Kedarnath wildlife sanctuary located in Uttarakhand state, India and a base for trekking to Tungnath, the third temple of Panch Kedar which lies 3.5 kilometres away.
3. Deoria Taal :- Deoria Tal is a lake about 3 km from the villages of Mastura and Sari on the Ukhimath-Chopta road in the state of Uttarakhand in India. Situated at an altitude of 2,438 metres in the Garhwal Himalayas, it has heavily wooded, lush green surroundings with snow-covered mountains in the backdrop.
4. Kartik Swami Temple :- Kartik Swami temple is located near Kanakchauri village on Rudraprayag - Pokhari route in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand. A mild 3k trek from Kanak Chauri village takes you to the stunning beauty of Kartik Swami temple.
Kartik Swami temple is dedicated to the elder son of Lord Shiva, Kartikeya, who offered his bones as testimony of his devotion to his father. It is believed that the incident took place here. Lord Kartik Swami is also known as Kartik Murugan Swami in the southern part of India.
Sandhya Aarti or evening prayers, enchantment of mantras and Maha-bhandara or grand feast organised at the temple occasionally is a special attraction for devotees and tourists.
5. Dhari Devi Temple :- Dhari Devi a Hindu temple located on the banks of the Alaknanda River between Srinagar and Rudraprayag in the Garhwal Region of Uttarakhand, India. The temple is home to the upper half of the idol of the goddess Dhari, while the lower half of the idol is located in Kalimath, where she is worshipped as a manifestation of the Goddess Kali.
WHICH IS THE BEST TIME TO VISIT
The best season to visit Rudraprayag is the winters and the onset of summers. The favorable months to visit the place are between October to March. The climate remains pleasant during these months offering tourists the best holiday experience.
